We invite you to join this collaborative effort to discuss and identify strategies to advance a more prosperous and dignified future for all individuals in the Americas, anchored in the enduring values of liberty and responsibility.
WELCOME
Dear Friends,
We have some great news for you–Mexico will host a regional meeting of the Mont Pelerin Society on March 16-19, 2025.
The meeting’s central theme will be: “The new roads to serfdom: Rebuilding the foundation of prosperity and freedom in the Americas”. We want to discuss the issues that unite us as a continent.
Mexico is the 14th largest economy in the world and the second in Latin America. It is the U.S.’s largest trading partner, and it scores a trade surplus in this relationship. It is also the meeting point between north and south in the Americas. Migration, drug trafficking and attacks on institutions are consequences of this geographical situation.
Mexico City is a center of a complex historical culture. It was, as Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec Empire, and later it became the center of colonial New Spain. Since 1821 it has been the capital of Mexico, and it has become a vibrant modern city where history, art and gastronomy meet.
On behalf of the Program and Organizing Committees, as well as Caminos de la Libertad of Grupo Salinas, the host organization, we look forward to seeing you in Mexico to strengthen our ideas in the face of today’s problems.

ABOUT GRUPO SALINAS
Grupo Salinas is one of Mexico’s and Latin America’s most important business organizations. With 180,000 employees, it is engaged in a wide range of activities, from financial services, insurance, and retirement-fund management, to retail, motorcycle production, media, telecoms, energy, and others.
The group was founded by Ricardo B. Salinas, although his family’s business activities began in 1906. Since early in the 20th century the Salinas family has been publicly identified with a pro-market philosophy. It has promoted the causes of economic and individual freedom, responsibility, respect, tolerance, private property, the rule of law, and free trade.
The trade opening and democratic reforms of the 1990s allowed Mexicans to enjoy greater freedom in many areas of life. But these freedoms did not come easily. They were the fruit of a long struggle by society.
Knowing that “the price of liberty is eternal vigilance,” however, Salinas created Caminos de la Libertad in 2004. This is an organization that seeks to promote the ideas of freedom in Mexico, Latin America, and the rest of the world.
Caminos de la Libertad resorts to a wide number of activities to fulfill its purpose. It organizes yearly essay and artistic competitions centered on freedom. It hosts seminars, conferences, book presentations, and other discussion opportunities. It also conducts research, and publishes academic and lay study materials.
Grupo Salinas sponsors other efforts to promote freedom. It has bet heavily on education. It has founded a series of quality high schools for disadvantaged youngsters, where they get an education competitive with that of the best private schools in the country. In 2023 it inaugurated the Universidad de la Libertad, a university that focuses on innovation and business development in an academic environment where the ideas of freedom are constantly promoted.
Grupo Salinas is now one of the most important business conglomerates in Mexico. But it is one that does not forget that freedom is essential to build shared prosperity.
